I have been thinking about 2010, and it is hard to believe that we are starting a new decade. Time flies by at such an unbelievable pace. If you think about it, time is the most valuable commodity in life that we have. It’s more valuable than money (you can make more money, but not more time). So we must invest our time wisely.
Ephesians 5:15 says, “Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time . . .” Time is precious. For me in 2010 I want to invest my time wisely by regularly sharing with our church family things that are happening at NewPointe, as well as things we are working on, even life-change stories that I hear.
So I begin by sharing with you what I shared with our staff – and I believe that this truth and the questions that follow are something we all need to hear.
Here’s the truth: a great 2010 starts with your walk with God. The key to a great 2010 is not more money or success. It’s having a great relationship with Jesus Christ.
I believe this with all of my heart. I also know it’s easy to get off track. But here are five questions I regularly ask myself to make sure I stay on track:
• What is the most humanly impossible thing you will ask God to do this year?
• What is the single most important thing you could do to improve the quality of your family life this year?
• In which spiritual discipline do you most want to make progress this year, and what will you do about it?
• For whose salvation will you pray most fervently this year?
• What single thing do you plan to do this year that will matter the most in ten years? In eternity?
Also, one last thing, we kicked off a new series last weekend called Monopolized. Our goal is to help you take control of your finances. Not only is this timely for us but this would be a great series to invite a friend to. Why? Because who do you know that is not challenged financially? This series isn’t about getting people to give to NewPointe; it is about understanding God’s principles, so that we can experience peace and contentment. Everyone needs that.
So again, Happy New Year! I want you to know that I love you. I believe that 2010 is going to be a great year. Remember to keep the “Son” in your eyes!
