Moses Syndrome

December 26, 2009

Florida Urban Myers steps down because of health reasons.

Here some bits of what he has said……

It was the pattern of what I was doing and how I was doing it. It was self-destructive."

He told The Times his daughter Nicki, 18, hugged him and said, "I get my daddy back."

WOW !

December 27,2009

Less than 24 hours after resigning because of health concerns, Meyer changed direction. It will be a leave of absence not resigning .

Myer  said. "I'm a person of faith and I wanted to make sure I have my priorities straight. Most of the time coaches don't. If you put business before God and family, you've got a problem. ... I was advised that I need to get this right or it could lead to damage."

Meyer acknowledged that  part of the problem is his tireless work ethic and his need to put the weight of the program solely on his shoulders.

In all of the articles that I have read about Urban Myer since his first conference about resigning I have yet to see the KEY PHRASE he used quoted.

Here it is : “ I have not learned how to delegate…”

Now that really is the problem, isn’t it ?  It is not that coaching the Florida Gators is too much. It sounds like he hasn’t grown in a major area of his leadership.

Moses  had the same problem in Ex.18. A lot of great stuff is happening , God is moving, but Moses is about dead. His wife and kids are suffering too. ( Be sure to read it )

Delegation is giving others necessary instructions and motivation to complete a specific task.

Here is how you can do that:

1. Determine the need- Establish what you will choose to delegate, and what you would like the outcome of this initiative to be.

2. Decide the Person. Give it to the person who is best qualified. If they can do it 80% as well as you, they are qualified.

3. Clarify Desired Results –Create a check list of goals that you will need to accomplish to complete the task. This will allow others to understand their responsibilities and have a sense of accountability.

4. Communicate – Define the scope and degree of authority given for delegated task. Maintain an open stream of communication with the person you have delegated to. Make sure when you do delegate a task you explain the importance of the task and how it will fit into the grand scheme of things. They must have a clear understanding of all aspects of the task at hand.

So what are you going to give away in 2010 ?

Your job may depend on it, not to mention your health.

Great Christmas

Christmas was fantastic. Got up in the morning Benjamin our youngest   read for us the  Christmas story from Luke 2 . Sarah then prayed and gave thanks for all that we have and enjoy and for the Christmas Eve service. We then opened up the gifts that we have got for each other. It was a great time sharing and giving.

The Mason family gather at our place around 4:00 for Christmas dinner.  We had Turkey, Ham , mash potatoes, stuffing, home made noodles, broccoli  casserole. rolls, sweet potatoes casserole.

Then we all gather in the family room. This year we decided not to buy gifts for each other and instead we gave to each person’s favorite ministry to help the poor and to write a prayer a day for each of the family members . We went around the room and shared which ministries we gave too.

We then  handed out all the cards that people had wrote their prayers and words of encouragement. It was great watching people read their cards, wiping away tears as they read them.

Some said it has been the best Christmas ever. Could that be possible with fewer gifts and more giving to others  who are in need ? It has proven so.

My father then closed it out by reminding us what him and mom had tried to do for us as kids.

First, to give us and teach us about a faith in Christ.

Second, to provide so that we could either get a college education or a start in our career.

Third, to be able to die debt free, so that they would not be a burden on us  kids and would be able to bless us. He said that continues to look right on course , as long as he doesn’t go on a spending spree.

Great Time. Great Family. Great Christmas .

I am truly blessed.

More Blessed to Give than Receive

Jesus said, that it is more blessed to give than to receive.

It is one thing to know that, it is another to experience it. I have experienced it this Christmas season.  As I mention in a message during our series, “Have your self a ____________ little Christmas, that the Mason side of the family decided not to exchange gifts this year, but that each one would pick a specific ministry for each person to contribute to.

Well—I choose to participate in GO 09.  Here at Newpointe we have a list of around 200 people. It is filled with Widows , single parent homes etc…..

I chose a widow.  Well I called her and introduced myself to her and told her the purpose of my call. That our family wanted to bless her this Christmas and wanted to be able to stop by and introduce ourselves and bring some gifts.  I asked her what she would enjoy receiving .

She was so taken back with emotions she could hardly talk.  I said would you like for me to call back and she said yes.

I can’t tell you the feeling I experienced.  Only that I now not only know the truth Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than received ”. I have experienced it.

Try it this Christmas.  It will change your life.

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress ….. . James  1:27

Only God

Yesterday, I was able to attend a celebration service that was great.  I got to sat with my wife Patty and enjoy a great time singing and listened to a very challenging message by John Bunn.

I sat about 3/4 back and was able to watch people participate during the service. I saw people enjoying  a cup of coffee , one young person was drinking a Mountain Dew.

Some were tapping their foot, clapping their hands, singing, tapping the back of their chair.

As I was sitting their , I was humble knowing that God is at work in people lives. People from all kinds of different background. People at all different stages in their journey with God .

I sat there and Gave thanks to God that I am apart of something that can only be explained by saying Only God could do this.

Newpointers responded greatly today to the challenge to sign up and help people in their time of need.  Go 09.

Thanks once again for your generous and obedient hearts.

Anger – one letter from Danger

Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry died Thursday, a day after falling out of the back of a pickup truck during what police said was a domestic dispute with his fiancee.

 henry_chris

The woman who was driving behind Chris Henry during the pickup truck incident called 911 -- and told the operator he was beating on the back window of the truck.

He was arrested 5 times in 28 months. He was suspended by the NFL for 8 games…

Here are what they are saying about Chris Henry.

"We knew him in a different way than his public persona,'' Bengals owner Mike Brown said of the player who was suspended five times during his career. "He had worked through the troubles in his life and had finally seemingly reached the point where everything was going to blossom. And he was going to have the future we all wanted for him. It's painful to us. We feel it in our hearts, and we will miss him.'' Cincinnati Bengals Owner

Since last August, when I had a talk with Chris when he was brought back to the football team, there was a different man sitting across from me -- a different person ... From that point on, we've seen a continual growth...both on the field and off the field.  Head Coach Marvin Lewis

My prayers and sympathy goes out to the Chris Henry family. It sounds like the young man had an anger problem. It is a problem that many if not all deal with at one time or another .

Though Chris had made a turn for the better . It seems that he could never conquer his anger . We must always remember that anger is just one letter away from Danger.  Anger is a God given emotion but must be handle in a God honoring way.

Here is what God’s Word has to say about anger:

A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control. Proverbs 29:11

For as churning the milk produces butter, and as twisting the nose produces blood, so stirring up anger produces strife. Proverbs 30:33

Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools. Ecclesiastes 7:9

Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city. Proverbs 16:32

Love …. is not easily angered… I Corinthians 13:5

"In your anger do not sin" : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry… Ephesians 4:26

I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing I Timothy 2:8

Remember anger is just one letter from Danger.

How is your anger level ?
