“ Psychiatric cases up by 35% as the valley woes deepen.”

This was the leading story in “The Times - Reporter” which is the newspaper for the county in which I live in.

The article goes on to say “ More Tuscarawas Valley residents are seeking out mental health professionals in attempts to deal with the worries over loss of jobs or economy.”

Let’s take a look at what the bible has to say about times like these.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again : Rejoice ! let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you . Philippians 4:6-8

This was written by the Apostle Paul when he was in prison. One of the things we know about Paul while he was in prison was that he sang. The Christian faith is basically the only religion that really sings their faith.

I got an ipod for Christmas and my kids filled it with great songs. I have started listening to it, and it is amazing the effect that it has on my spirit and attitude. Let me encourage you to fill your hearts with God’s truth through songs. It will strengthen your spirit and your outlook.

Jesus gives us an incredible invitation in Matthew 11:28 “ Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.”
