Great Story

Our son Caleb plays high school football for the Garaway Pirates. Every Friday night, our family heads out to the game—home or away—to cheer on the team!

The past couple games have included some heartwarming moments at the end. Our team water boy for the past several years has been Craig Gordon. Craig is a down syndrome young man, and he has been a big part of the Garaway team, serving and encouraging the Garaway players. This is Craig’s last year at Garaway, and the coaching staff has included him in all the senior activities/privileges and has him dressing for the Varsity games every Fri. night.

Last week at Fawcett Stadium, the Garaway football head coach Jason Wallick gave Craig an opportunity of a life time. With a minute and a half on the clock in the 4th quarter, we heard Coach Wallick yell, “Craig, get your helmet on!” Craig ran out into the backfield for the last few plays of the game as the team was taking a knee so that the clock ran out. He jumped up and down excitedly, and the stands went wild, cheering him on!

Last night at the game against Tusky Valley, Craig got in on the last few plays again—cheered on by the home crowd.

Every Friday night for the past few years has been a high light for Craig, but now the games are really off the chart. He is able to not just participate but get in the game.

Props to all the Garaway football coaches.

Here is a picture of him.
